Explaining The Red Ring Of Death

    -
If you've spent hundreds on a new gaming system, the last thing you want to see happen is the Red Ring of Death. The gaming industry has made great strides with its technology. Unfortunately, in all of this new technology, we are navigating uncharted waters and experiencing unforeseen problems. The lighting fast graphics and memory of the Xbox 360 can easily cause overheating.

Since there are such a vast number of failures associated with this system, it comes with its own warning system for the RROD. You can recognize this problem from the group of green lights on the front of the console turning red.

Clarifying the Red Ring of Death

The Xbox 360 Red Ring of Death is divided into four quadrants, you can tell exactly what's wrong by the patterns of green and red lights. For instance, general hardware failures cause every light to turn red excluding the first. When your console overheats, only the second quadrant will turn red.

If only the third quadrant is green and all of the others are blinking red, you have a hardware problem. If all of the lights are blinking red, don't worry, this only means the power cable is not connected correctly.

You should remain familiar with the lights on the front of your console and what they mean because certain problems can be fixed easily, without shipping your system off for repair. Also, if you do ever contact customer support, they'll want to know any details you can provide.

Repairing your Xbox 360 can be a long and difficult process. Sometimes the damaged components even have to be shipped off for analysis.

Being familiar with the RROD can be beneficial, but also discouraging. A built in indicator for hardware failure is a giant red flag when thinking about buying a new gaming console. The newer Xbox 360 consoles experience this problem way less.

If you’re concerned about this issue, but still want to buy an Xbox 360, you should purchase the extended warranty because the Red Ring of Death hardly ever occurs within the first 90 days of use.
